Vickie Collins, dabbling in culture and just being herself here at Multiply

First of all, two bits of "housekeeping" to get out of the way. For those of you that might not already know me, I am not a real female...I am a CROSSDRESSER. That means that genitally I am a male, but like on occocian to dress up to the 9s in female attire. It represents another sideto my personality. Next until about Jan 19th 2008, the blogs were the same here on multiply and on yahoo. However then they verged into seperate pages. For example Sunday is cuties on yahoo and Art on multiply. In addition, even when the general topic is the same, I do different items on one than the other...for example two different movies might be reviewed on Monday, one here, and one on yahoo. So check out my yahoo site also at yahoo 360 to see what is happening overall. I was in a relationship for quite a while until he died in November of 2006. I am trying to get out and about again, but it is not easy. I often find myself being a recluse. I hope to have friends (including someone in the romantic sense) in real life at some point but for now spend a lot of time on the internet.

Movie Monday: PS I Love You

For several days, nay a couple of weeks, I have been seeing previews of this movie on cable on demand, but it is still a pay per viewing. I have never, untill last night, paid for an individual movie. If the movie was on regular cable or on demand and was part of the package, I would watch it,however, to pay 4.99 addition (or even more) to see a movie on top of the rather sizable monthly fee I pay seemed exorbitent. However, last night, after being with a group of people that were confirming that this movie was very definitely one that I would like...an impression I already had from seeing the preveiws and I just had to drop the dime so to speak and see it. I dont regret for one second the extra 5.00, as it was very much worth it.

The story in case you have not seen previews is about Hiliary Swank as Holly Kennedy's, whose husband dies and leaves behind a series of letters telling her what to do next. One, for example tells her she has to go sing kaokake....

art sunday...and travel...............of a different kind

Today is Art sunday, and this is travel month. I think this is an optional theme of feasting also, but two out of three aint bad, I always say. This fits, in my estimation two of those three categories. (warning I love just about any sci-fiction because of this fantastical travel possiblity)

Art is almost anything that affects the human spirit, I have heard it said. Travel is a way of going to new places. On the Sci-Fi channel on cable in the United States, or at least in my area of the US, there is a show that I think combines these two admirable. Certainly the show qualifies as Art using this definiation, because it touches at least one spirit..ie mine. It is also about travel, altought not in space, at least to other ideas of reality.

The show starts out with a man driving across country who happens upon this idyllic small town in the northeast. He stops off there, and subsquently gets hired as the sherriff. It turns out,&nbs...

Battered and Fried

Recently I discovered a nice little eatery sandwiched in between a Family Dollar and a small strip mall with the outstanding feature of a neightborhood hardware store. Owned by the same people that own Beyond the Edge, written about http://vickiecollins.multiply.com/journal/item/331/has_the_whole_world_gone_gay_while_I_was_asleep , It features reasonably enought battered and fried foods. There is a variety of meats that are "battered and fried" including fish and chips, and beef tips. The beef tips are marinated in terijaki sause before being fried, and today when I asked it was possible to get them with the terijaki sauce I learned that the answer was no.

However, altought tarijaki sauce is not my favorite, I can on occasion eat and enjoy it...and the fish is superb. The fries come in a paper bag which is kind of cute. I do recommend this place for an afternoon casual

I love New Orleans, but hadnt been for over 4 1/2 years (october 2003). A lot has happened, both with the city and myself over that period. I lost Roy in 2006 and the City of New Orleans went throught many travails related to Hurricane Katrina, so things really hadnt been conducive on either side, but after a year and a half of grief and depression, I decided it was time to get back to one of my favorite cities. Fortunately, I now know a delightful T-girl that lives in Baton Rouge but travels to NO when given just bout any excuse, and I was willing to be her excuse. :)

Having her hanging out with me for most of the weekend turned out to be "educational" for both of us.
The above comes from an argurment I often hear in groups of transgendered folks. In a non-political grouip we should be "allowed to discuss what affects us all". As thought the same thing affects all of us. This is patently NOT true. In fact the more people talk about what "affects all of us" the less connected I feel tot he transgendered community as a whole and whatever group I am dealing with in participular.

So what affects "all of us"? Well, you will often hear within the t community that being able to go to mainstream locations, or fly en femme is somehow a right that needs to be fought for. I have no problem with that. However I have my own list of items that "affect me".

One is that my age is such that I dont look as beautiful as the young t-girl, nor as sexy as those who have had the fortune to have lots of surguy and shape changing. Does that mean that I want to have surgry...no. I just want a man to sweep me off my feet...an...

Movie Monday: Heart of Dixie

Torch Song Trilogy: part of the Sunday Art Tour

Well, when Wicked adviced me that the theme for Art Sunday was "Theater", I had several thoughts. One of them was to find pictures on the internet of various theaters, maybe the Globe theater in particular. That would hark back to Shapespeare and the origins of modern theater etc. But I could not really find any good pictures, that were what I wanted, of the Globe or for that matter any other theater.

So it suddenly occurred to me, what happens in theaters? Well, in the "old style" theater, plays happen. In the more modern termology movie playhouses are given the same title. So, what better subtopic that a story that started out being my very first off broadway play (I do mean right off broadway in New York City...not the more general "anything not on Broadway" sense)...ie Torch Song Trilogy starring Harvey Fierstein as the unsinkable Arnold, gay man and sometime drag queen who is seen in his stuggle for acceptance and love, both in terms of his rela...
