Vickie Collins, dabbling in culture and just being herself here at Multiply

Well, here goes. .  When
I read Lina's optional theme for art sunday, I could think of only one possible item that would qualify as my contributation.  And that was Neil Simon's play the "The Out of Towners" made into a film in 1970 starring Jack Lemmon and Sandy Duncan as George and Gwen Kellerman.

This movie shows the results of a travel where NOTHING
rge, being offered a job in New York City, books a flight to New York. The day of the trip sees fog forcing the plane to redirect to Boston, with their luggage getting misplaced in the meantime.  To say nothing goes right is an understatement, with hotel reservations being lost, medicine being unavailable due to the lost luggage, 2 muggings and every other concievable disaster occurring.

The most artful part of the film is Jack's playing of the very hyper George, who takes names throughtout with intention to sue, accompanied by Gwen (Sandy Duncan's) calm acceptance of "just one more disaster".

While one would perfer that nothing even approaching this level of frustation ever happen in one's own travels, the viewer finds themselves wondering what new assault lies around each corner.  Altought I think this movie was remade in 1999, I cant imagine it being done any better by anyone other than Jack Lemmon (who seems to be 'made" for the violate part of George) or the comical calmess of Sandy Duncan.  Both of these performers seems extremely ideal for the roles they are playing.

I suggest seeing this...and suspect that you will find yourself moaning in sympathy and laughting hysterically at the particular-ness of the reactions of these incredible characters played by incrdible actors in the ARTWORK film called "The Out of Towners".

These days this is less comedy and more the reality of American Air travel
